Saint Helena Access - The story so far
Over the years there has been a succession of studies about St Helena with various objectives but essentially attempting to maximise the use of existing assets, principally the RMS and the offload facilities at Jamestown. The most recent developments have been in:
- April 2003: DFID issues an international invitation to attract Expressions of Interests to develop an air access solution for St Helena
- September 2003: DFID commissions Atkins Management Consultants to undertake a detailed evaluation of the Expressions of Interests received
- Q1 2004: DFID announces the cancellation of the procurement process
- May 2004: Atkins commissioned to undertake a feasibility study to establish the most practical and affordable means of access to St Helena, covering both sea and air access
- March 2005: DFID Ministers announce St Helena will have its own airport in or around 2010
- July 2006: ITT released to pre-qualified tenderers
- October 2006: DBO re-advertised, previous advertisement cancelled
- February 2007: Three ASP applicants pre-qualified
- March 2007: Four DBO applicants pre-qualified
- June 2007: Two DBO Applicants visited St Helena (Impregilo and Basil Read)
- November 30 2007: Two DBO tenders received
- November 2007: Three ASP tenders received and evaluated
- January 2008: ASP procurement suspended
- May 2008: Application for Development Permission submitted
