History was made on St Helena at 13.50hrs GMT on Tuesday 15 September 2015, as a Beechcraft King Air 200 aircraft arrived from Angola and touched down at St Helena’s new Airport, prior to conducting a series of calibration flights.

Fuel Management Contract Vehicles Arriving Soon

Fuel Management Contractors Penspen Ltd will soon see the arrival of their new vehicles arrive on St Helena. Four of the five tankers are now complete and ready to ship from the UK, Penspen Ltd project staff have overseen the construction of these vehicles up to the point of being witness tested ready for shipment. This has included overseeing every working function of the vehicles to ensure 100% safety of the vehicles capabilities. The fifth tanker will undergo witness testing soon. The vehicles will then travel from the UK via Namibia where members of the project team will meet them for a further quality check prior to traveling the final leg to St Helena.

  • 5500ltr Diesel Tanker

    1 x 5500ltr diesel tanker and 1 x 5500ltr petrol tanker for delivering fuel from the bulk fuel installation in Ruperts Valley to petrol stations and licensee controlled sites around the Island. These will replace the two existing Solomon & Co yellow tankers that can be seen currently delivering ground fuels to sites on Island.
  • 18000ltr Jet A1 Fuel Aircraft Refuelling Tanker

    2 x 18000ltr Jet A1 fuel aircraft refuelling tankers. These will be permanently based at the Airport facility and will draw jet fuel from the AFF site to fill aircraft directly on the pan at the airport.
  • 18000ltr Jet A1 Aircraft Refueller

  • 12000ltr Jet A1 Fuel Bridger Tanker

    1 x 12000ltr Jet A1 fuel bridger tanker. The purpose of this vehicle will be to deliver jet fuel from the bulk fuel installation in Rupert's Valley to the new airport fuelling facility (AFF site) once built, via the haul road. A small amount of jet fuel will be stored at the AFF site for refuelling aircraft quickly and efficiently.

  • November 2011 - Airport Announcement - Design, Build and Operate Contract Signed Between St Helena Government and Basil Read Pty Ltd.

  • February 2012 - Relocation of Basil Read Senior Employees and the Project Management Team (PMU) from Halcrow (pictured) to the Island.

  • March 2012 - First Blasting in Rupert's for the temporary jetty - Small Blast lasting less than 20mins with 700 cubic meters of stone obtained pic copyright. Deon De Jager Local Recruitment Drive has resulted in 70 Saints being employed by Basil Read.

  • May 2012 -Completion of Temporary Jetty in Rupert's

  • June 2012 - A 27 tonne drill rig arrives on Island to be used for exploratory water drilling in various areas on the Island.

  • July 2012 -NP Glory 4 (Basil Read Ship) arrives at St Helena and moors alongside jetty in Rupert's for the first time. On her first voyage she brought plant and heavy machinery for the St Helena Airport Project.

  • September 2012 - 14km Haul Road (Access Track) completed from Rupert's Valley to the Airport site at Prosperous Bay Plain

  • September 2012 - First large blast takes place at Clingham's Quarry. 7 tonnes (7000kg) of explosives was used to blast 12,500m of rock.

  • November 2012 -One Year Anniversary since the signing of the contract between St Helena Government and Basil Read.

  • February 2013 - 73 tonne blast takes place at Prosperous Bay Plain, fired by HE Governor Capes.

  • April 2013 - 1,000,000 cubic meters of fill reached in Dry Gut - 13% of the total 8,000,000 cubic meters required.

  • September 2013 - Approval given for next stage of development works to take place at Rupert's.

  • November 2013 - Two Year Anniversary, since the signing of the contract between St Helena Government and Basil Read.

  • December 2013 - Development Permission for Airport Project Works in Rupert's Approved.
